I know a bit about digital preservation and railway signalling
Transport Victoria has just sent me an email informing me that the Metro is open. LOL.

Even more good news for Victorians today.

'Not particularly photogenic' indeed.

LOL - it's right next to a freeway. Why would they be thinking about rail?

(You will note that none of the renders shows the necessary freeway interchange, or the scale of the car parking necessary for the visitor numbers required to support the development.)

It will be to the left of the M1 label

Darren wrote an oped that the Metro station names are dull. In particular, he seems peeved that his suggested names, 'Barry' and 'Melba', were not chosen for the two city stations.

Have you ever seen anything more '70s in your life?

Well, this explains the problem of resource consumption (power, money, training materials) by AI companies.

A log law means ever more massive deployment of resources to get ever diminishing returns in results.

The implications of this belief are horrifying.

$4 at the local op shop. 20 years old, but it is amazing how some things have changed. The Liberals, for example. Climate change is a part of environmentalism (but a large part of the final part of the entry)

The bit that shows the nonsense that is NatLib policy is "energy security" - a key driver for Sth Korea. 'Clean power' means you don't import your energy and in an insecure world means it can't be cut off. What other countries buying Australian coal would be interested? China? India? All of them?

Presumably these are the people adjacent to Britons.

Put it back in a book…

Found on the floor at the local op shop. Perfect condition for 22 year old thermal printing. Almost certainly spent the intervening period in a book.

(Yes, i convinced the people at the op shop to take some money for it)

One day someone is going to have to explain to me the significance of central European 19th century dress soldiers to Christian theology.

Of course they might be a pagan symbol subsumed into the dominant Christian paradigm

Incidentally, I'll bet they don't realise (or care about) the heritage significance of the two former siding gates. They're the only gates left intact sitting on their original foundation, probably with the operating mechanism intact under ground.

The irony is that there already is a pedestrian underpass at this level crossing. It was filled solid with concrete 20-30 years ago.

The two lines of bluestone blocks are the tops of the retaining walls for the access staircases.

Gotta say I think this review says more about the reviewer that the show being reviewed.

Article pointing out the cost of paying to access Australian standards. And asking whether Australian specific standards are necessary. But then the kicker that shows the people making this argument know *nothing*...

LOL, when was the last time they tried to get a copy of an iso standard?

@dreadships.bsky.social possibly a bit colourful for the North Atlantic, but very effective.

(The Melbourne Cup is noted for its stylish fashions)

Today.

Note the flashing lights on the occupation crossing instead of a gate and the lack of the pole line.

(Near cnr of Ingliston Rd & Jaicomellis Ln, just east of Ballan.)

Only one more, I promise... Clearly the corner of Riley & Miles St. From my battered Gregories, I reckon this has been all cleared ('slum clearance') to build the St John Northcote Place.

Imagine having all the resources of the SLNSW at your finger tips and you could only come up with that caption.

Who cares about the hat? The model is nearly blocking the view of the Chandris Line ship. I'm fairly confident she's the SS Ellinis, formerly the Matson Line's Lurline, which ran Southampton - Sydney. Her passengers were mostly migrants.
