Do you offer opportunities to lead, to make decisions, to hold elected positions? They don’t want to be just labor. They have to feel engaged. I know it’s hard and I don’t mean to be critical. We need some new thinking. If what we’re doing isn’t working we have to try new things.

How could you do a better job of making them feel welcome, useful, and valued?

Do you ever think about why those meetings are full of boomers, and why young people don’t show up? Or they go once and don’t go back? Boomers need to release their vice grip on local organizing. The way they do things is pushing new and energetic people away.

Alas, someone was punished, just not the right someone.
