But what’s the point? He’ll mourn anyway. At least this way, Viktor gets more time without Jayce reminding him every moment, in every action, with kind eyes and soft touch, that he is dying. Viktor exhales slowly, his fingers gripping the edges of the sink so tight his knuckles have turned white with the force. His joints hurt as he forces himself to let go, to pull his hands away, to grab his cane. His body decomposes while his heart still beats.

He clings, fingers twisting into the expensive fabric of Silco’s shirt, distorting the fragile silk, tears staining it. Silco shifts from knees to sitting so he can pull Viktor against him, hold him close, like when things were new and Viktor and Silco were still used to being _alone_, the idea of having somebody a novelty.
