2nd I believe my "Can't Help But Be Me" self recording sessions, which I did during a city break in Glasgow, were completed on this day 2yrs ago. It would then see it's release a mere 15 days later, and would be the first single of the official start of Manic Romance being a one man project. ☝️

1st, it's 14yrs since the longstanding trio of Alan, G and I entered the studio at Ymca Kirkcaldy and recorded "Saviours", then known affectionately as "David Cameron" 😜

Also listened to Deryck Whibley's audiobook shortly before it, and I deeply related to a lot of his story.

So it could be said that without Sum 41, there would be no Manic Romance‼️

They definitely showed me that's it's okay to stray off the base path, and flirt with heavier sounds in some of my material.

Was lucky to see them on their last tour at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, and it was an awesome show.

Apart from knowing blink-182 and The Offspring 's biggest crossover hits ("All The Small Things" and "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)") as a kid, Sum 41 were one of the first actual Pop Punk bands I really got into alongside Good Charlotte. This was also well before I even got into Green Day!

The mad thing is, G (then bassist) and I proceeded to go out on the town for a few hours after the gig despite the long day we had already had and all the driving that he did. This definitely set the stage for how much of the rest of tour life would play out! 🙈

Absolutely worth it though, as it was sold out and we went onstage to pretty much full capacity to kick things off. Think we had to drop a couple of songs, but that wasn't the worst thing because it made us stick to our strongest songs, which in turn likely led to a better first impression.

That was one heck of a long day, with us setting off from Kirkcaldy early in the day to travel all the way to Lincoln to be onstage that night. Then the gig started significantly later than scheduled.
