Violence and destruction is the language of capital. It’s the only language it understands. Personal property damage is not violence, and should be avoided. Private property damage - I.e. burning down a Walmart, or a Wells Fargo, or a police station, is an acceptable form of violent demonstration.

And frankly Ghandi isn’t some saint. He was a useful tool for the British empire. And I frankly hate how liberals use him as some symbolic endpoint of resistance, not as a moment in a longer struggle—one that the oppressed of India are still fighting today against their own state and elites.

To revere the early, "safe" King and ignore the radical, despairing King who was planning the multiracial Poor People's Campaign when he was murdered is a disservice to his memory and his analysis.

He did not condemn the violence of the oppressed in the abstract while his own government dropped napalm on villages. He recognized it as the predictable, explosive symptom of a system that had made peaceful change impossible through its own intransigence and brutality.

On MLK… Your mainstream icon is a pacified fiction. The real Martin Luther King Jr., by 1967-68, called the U.S. government "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today." He understood the riots of the urban North as the "language of the unheard."
