Delhi's Air Polluted even before Winter
🔴Delhi crossed the annual PM2.5 NAAQS (40 µg/m3) as early as June 2025.
🔴Top 10 fastest cities to exceed the annual standard this year 👇

India’s clean energy transition is strong, but unchecked coal clouds the road ahead.
🎯India’s #500GW non-fossil target could make #coal power peak before 2030.
⚠️But unchecked coal expansion could make the transition slower
🔋Grid flexibility, #storage & transmission will decide the pace ahead.

Despite being mandated in 2015, 92% of #coal plants in India still lack #FGDs to cut #SO2 emissions. Now studies by NEERI, NIAS & IIT Delhi are cited to weaken SO₂ norms. we have compiled a note outlining the common arguments along with scientific responses that counter them.

🇮🇳 NEW | On 30 May 2024, #India met record highest power demand without full use of #coal fleet, largely due to solar

234GW of planned RE capacity will further reduce pressure on thermal, removing need for new coal

Despite ongoing debate over the need for FGDs in India, the scientific evidence is clear: enforcing SO₂ norms in coal power plants (CPP) is non-negotiable. Power sector drives up to 12% of PM2.5 and transboundary impact is 16% in urban areas. Only 8% CPP have FGDs and 380 of 537 CPP exceed limits.
