Many Things (they / them / ia)
@many-things.bsky.social
I've been privileged to be involved in 'many things' over the years, many of which bring me happiness.
Living in Aotearoa NZ. Still Coviding. Still trying to help the world be a better place.
My grandfather with his wife who quit work when they got married to raise the two kids, in his mid to late 20s with a pretty regular job, brought a four bed house with a huge garden, in the surburbs, on a 15 year mortgage (and paid it off).

No way can someone do that now.

And the ongoing cuts to the public funding tries to show how badly the public system is as is stands, so it should all just be privatisedand 'run like a business' (and using medical insurance premiums) because it'd be 'cheaper and better'.... nope.

yeah, that 'bit of a cold', a lot of people seem to be in bed from at the moment.

Unless we're going the route of Blade Runner 2049, robots do the work, humans are the consumers.

Capitalists need more uneducated people buying stuff.

The wealthy are not connecting that no-one in work means no-one having spending money (because they always have money whilst they don't work).

I do exclusively digital group meetings.

The amount of times people say they're 'too sick to make the meeting because of a cold'...

If you're stuck in bed to unable to even make an audio call, that's not a cold!

Before Covid: A cold might give you a bit of a runny nose. Not disable you for days.

If anyone is going to be manipulating systems for their own gain, and releasing high level confidential and priviledged information to 'friends' for similar gain, I can't think of anyone else more likely than Trumpf.

It's like there's a troll handbook on how to show dissatisfaction from a place of entitlement. Claiming to have been a fan for years but now suddenly...
If they were genuinely a long term supporter, they wouldn't be writing crap like this.
I'm sorry idiots like this are getting under your skin.

I have. Regular seat. Big chute into a 90ltr. Stir the contents weekly (internal paddles). Liquids drain through the double chamber into a soakaway. Add pine wood shavings (not dust) and some enzymes after solids. Low power fan pulls air through = no smell. 6 months rest per chamber for fertliser.

I used to do a lot of hiking, so my bigger pack is a 65ltr (25 years old, but still going strong) hiking backpack with adjustable straps and proven comfort, pre-loaded as a grab bag (tent, food, first aid supplies, masks, etc. in drybags, for 🏃🏃+🐱). Also, I highly recommend you get walking poles.

Very fortunate to have found a cheap enough dream rural bit of land, towards the end of a single track gravel road, past a supportive group of neighbours.
<30mins from the nearest hospital and key retailers town.
Currently developing a workshop, food forest, and tiny homes, for a small community.

I feel like they're the kids who never grew out of the marshmallow experiment, but yet are still somehow constantly rewarded for short term gain, rinse and repeat, so don't even need to wait for the second marshmallow.

As someone who lives off-grid already: Unless you have a very big system, don't try to heat or cool rooms with solar. Ideally don't heat water either. Use a wood burner for heating the room / cooking in the winter. And try to use good insulation, natural shade, to reduce gaining heat in the summer.

CDC also recommends hosing down your front step, to protect your house from the incoming fire.
January 9, 2025 at 9:21 AM
It's only a mild fire, at least two blocks away so don't worry.
Also, you'll be fine because you read online your type of house is immune to all fire, even when those flames are directly against the walls.
Just checking, did you live in that house five years ago? Yeah, you're screwed.

If cows are currently the intermediary for transmission, does that still make it herd immunity? Or should it be flock immunity now?

Can we all make a point if calling it 'American Flu (2025)'?
