One of the problems with working on three things at the same time is that you don't feel like you're making that much progress with any of them. I've got around 20k words on three separate WIPs - if it was just one I'd almost be done by now...

New book is all planned out; 31 chapters of magical realism romance adventure. Now, onto writing - although I've obviously cheated because I got excited and already have 10k words down!

So I've been looking at the two books I'm writing and - as I tend to do - have decided to write something completely different.

It's magical realism, only with a romance. I've never written a romance before! Let's see how this goes...

Now that Exodus is published, here's a look back at how it came about - and why it's actually a bit of a mystery to me! theabditory.co.uk/2025/04/27/e...
Exodus: A look back at the Navigator trilogy - Matthew Samuels
It’s done! The Navigator series, which started with Parasites, is finished 🙂 I’m very pleased with it all, and wanted to take some time to look back at how it came about. It might sound strange, but t...

But while Exodus is getting ready to launch, I've found out that Parasites and Dusk have been pirated on LibGen - and that Meta used LibGen to train its AI models... More on the Atlantic here: www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

It's getting pretty exciting :) Exodus (Navigator / Parasites 3) is progressing - we've got a map, it's all laid out and print formatted and I'm commissioning the cover. Hopefully I'll have a release date and a cover reveal for you all soon!

The plan was to have a creative break until Christmas; catch up on some reading, resolve the backlog, have a clear out, watch some films.

Turns out I can do that, but I also have an irresistible urge to keep writing. So that's what I'm doing.

I'm quite enjoying recharging at the moment. I've been helping a friend with some editing, but otherwise just reading, gaming and watching films - although I did briefly look at one of my book ideas the other day...

And we're done with Exodus. The map is sorted, the print formatting is booked! All we need (next year) is a cover. I'll be taking a bit of a break, although I've already started to think about what's next...

I've just finished The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik, and definitely enjoyed it. I liked the first one but was puzzled that it didn't *really* have a plot. Also not quite a fan of how much of the book happens in El's head, but on balance, did like it - and I'm onto the third!

Alright! Fourth edit of Exodus complete. One more to go, I think!

I was reading the news about LinkedIn this morning and it occurred to me: it used to be that companies would sell your data for advertising. Now they're doing that *and* using it to train their AI. As someone who enjoys privacy, I find this all vaguely terrifying.

I'm closing on the end of the fourth edit of Exodus, the third book in the Navigator series - and still enjoying it! Usually I (temporarily) go off my books once I've read them four times in a row, but this one seems different. I'm looking forward to bringing this one to you all :)

I just finished the first edit of Exodus, the third (and final) book in the Parasites / Navigator series. It's *very* different, but I really enjoyed it - hope you all do too when it arrives :)

I've just finished playing Spiritfarer on PC and it's amazing what an emotional rollercoaster it was. I've got slightly mixed feelings though, because it could also just be incredibly tedious 😔

Just finished up a Kael and Alessia chapter in Navigator 3. They've gone back to the Crystal World, and this time, they're using its strange denizens to lethal effect. It's a shame there's not much time for sightseeing, but I'm trying to keep the pace up!

Neuromancer is probably William Gibson's most important book, his most influential, but imho, Pattern Recognition is his best. It's the most fluid and coherent - maybe it's more simplistic, but I absolutely love it.

My 2023 #BookRoundUp is here and it's underwhelming. Well, for me anyway. Then again, 2023 has been the shittiest of shit years, so I'll cut myself some slack. Quantity low, quality high, many genres. Go check them out! #bookbloggers #books #bookreviews

OK, not so much a star wars-inspired film, despite the lightsaber, but The Adam Project was pretty decent fun. Good boxing day of boxing day watching.

And continuing my 'potentially inspired by star wars' film watching: The Adam Project. I'll be honest - I've always had a bit of a lukewarm reaction to Ryan Reynolds films outside of Deadpool, but let's see.

Rebel Moon was gorgeously done, but somehow didn't quite grab me. I'm not quite sure if it was the characters, the plotting or something else, but I'm glad I watched it.

Zac Snyder sure does love his slow-mo's and rousing choral anthems! Let's see how this pans out...

Happy boxing day everyone! I keep forgetting about Blue Sky, but once they start charging for Twitter I'll be here full time 😂 The festive season here is continuing with a full watch of the die hard series, and we've just finished 3.
