Very often, when it comes to mental health effects, solid evidence is very slow to accumulate, sometimes slower than widespread damage. E.g. think of the ads-driven commercial social networks and the discussions around Haidt's book. My comment is not about facts or opinions, but about methodology

If you truly are car dependent, then you should want as many people changing to using bikes, trains, buses, etc. Because when everyone is forced into a car, nobody is going anywhere, and neither is a local economy as it is strangled by car debt. It’s simple maths and geometry.
