why is it almost 2026 and is off-screenrendering still a pile of hacks i rememebr working on gpu drivers like 20yrs ago it's not like there's anything magical about rendering to some set of buffers instead but people are somehow really weird about it

apparentlym the workaround is "start X11 once outside the container"
now it picks up the outputs, including the fake DFP output again
i feel so dumb, everyone else would have guessed this,... right?!
not going to think about how horribly cursed this is

the complication, in my case, is that this thing doesn't have a monitor connected
as far as i know it was using NvFBC (nvidia's proprietary API) to grab a non-existent monitor connected to a non-existent DFP port. this worked fine, up to today

there's also some configuration with regard to the capture method that's used to grab the screen
for AMD this can be wlr/x11 (depending on the display manager being wayland or X11) or kms, which grabs the display directly, but requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN privileges, you could try switching those

assuming that rendering works okay locally on the host, the most important for low latency is that a) the hardware video encoding works on the host, and b) that hardware video decoding works on the client
