What a gripping, heart wrenching novel from Charlotte McConaghy. Glad I decided to lug it with me over to Italy. Unforgettable. Brilliant.

Oh my gosh, what a book.

When I first started reading Christopher Bollen's HAVOC, I thought someone foisted this Bertie-Wooster-like delight onto me as a thriller. But then it became Jeeves meets American Psycho, and I truly became smitten.

I absolutely LOVE this deliciously dark, dark book.

Still House Plants last night in Los Angeles. I have wanted to see them live for a very long time. What a blast.

Last week I read a brand-new book that was so awful I was afraid I wouldn't read again. Then I picked up THE NIGHT GUEST by Hidur Knútsdóttir and it saved me. An absolute ace of a thriller/horror like nothing else out there. @hildur.bsky.social

Over the years I have been gifted some pretty incredible fan art. This is one of my favorites. Mad praise for whoever created this.

I love my cat so much. But to be honest, nobody else does; she’s such a prick, so I totally get it. This is the most important work pets can do for our souls.

A very small victory: In the past 18 months, Lufthansa has lost my luggage on two out of two flights. Dealing with them was utterly exhausting; like their strategy is totally based on getting people to give up. My foul mouth and I have finally prevailed. Go to hell, Lufthansa. Don’t bring luggage.

My Best Books of 2024--all of them absolutely spectacular and original. THE HEART IN WINTER by Kevin Barry; BEAUTYLAND by Marie-Helene Bertino; PARASOL AGAINST THE AXE by Helen Oyeyemi.

This is a baby Blainville's Horned Lizard, a threatened species that has a few nesting areas in the hills around my home. When they hatch (this photo was 2 days ago), they come out by the dozens. Trying to keep them safe for the future.

I’m a big fan of Helen Oyeyemi. Nobody (NOBODY!!!) writes like she does.

This book is absolutely perfect. Pure joy, immersive, funny as all hell. PARASOL AGAINST THE AXE by Helen Oyeyemi. My favorite book of 2024 so far, and my favorite Oyeyemi novel. *chef’s kiss*

This is the first photo I took in 2024, a bobcat who lives in the hills behind my house. I know exactly where she lives, but she always disappears when I try to get a picture. Today I mesmerized her by telling her she's pretty in my Ultra-High-Pitched-Kitty-Voice™ and she was momentarily intoxicated

This is a beautiful little book. Originally called Lo Stralisco; one of the most popular children's books in Italy. There aren't strict kids' categories in Italy, but this is a lovely story for all ages; about a painter hired to decorate the interior walls of a sick child's room. GLOWRUSHES.
