It’s been kind of a whirlwind couple of weeks, and I can finally talk about one of the highlights: I got to review NHL 26 for IGN! If you’re on the fence about whether to buy this year’s game, check it out!

It is very funny how people completely lost it over the Dexit thing with Sword and Shield, when the stuff with the GB to GBA era was so much more heartbreaking.

Ruby/Sapphire not allowing transfers from the GB games absolutely devastated me back in the day.

I’ve never heard anyone say it beyond me! I’ve always just heard his favorite was Poliwag, but Poliwag barely gets anything so it always seemed odd.
marcdachamp.bsky.social
The funny thing is, I do kinda like the Poli line because of how weirdly exposed Poliwhirl was back in the day, and it gives me a little nostalgia. But it’s not like… a fan favorite!
marcdachamp.bsky.social
My conspiracy theory for years has been that Poliwhirl was the favorite Pokemon of Satoshi Tajiri, but it was mistranslated as Poliwag in an interview and it’s never been corrected.

Poliwhirl constantly getting front billing in Pokémon content from the first few years of the franchise is still incredibly bizarre. There was not a single person that loved Poliwhirl, but (during that time) it had about 10 times the amount of merchandise that Eevee got.

Google is single-handedly destroying video game coverage right now and a big reason I’m currently looking for work.

And the thing is, even the biggest indie games don’t drive clicks. I didn’t know what Vampire Survivors was until I started covering it (after it was a genuine hit), and even then, we couldn’t get people to read those stories. Same with Among Us and countless other games.
marcdachamp.bsky.social
Yeah, this is the unfortunate reality. There were many indie games I would have loved to cover, but unless there’s a hook (spiritual successor, beloved developer involved, gameplay that evokes a classic series), it’s impossible to justify the time and effort, even if it’s something that excites us.

Man, I constantly miss that place.

Yep, and I have “online friends” I’ve been pals with for close to two decades, despite (sadly) never meeting in person! Right @raygoldfield.bsky.social and @garymylazycat2025.bsky.social?

God damn, some of yall been following each other online for a decade?!!

Life hack: did you know that you can dip a cookie in the milk leftover from your cereal from breakfast? It’s true! Thanks to a loophole in our judicial system, no one can actually stop you from doing it.

Yep. It’s basically Lemmings meets Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and you’re using the pointer to guide a blinded Mario.

It would have been the easiest game ever to bring over! Absolutely bizarre. I’m glad we finally have it.

This is charming as hell. I can’t believe Nintendo just… never brought this over.
A course clear screen in Mario & Wario.

When rumors were floating around last year about mouse controls on Switch 2, I fully expected to see it finally localized. It’s all in English, so it’s weird it took this long!

Reading Kieren Gillen’s Darth Vader run for the first time. I read a few crossover issues a few years ago while picking up the Star Wars ongoing, but now I’m starting from the beginning and it’s really freaking good. Pretty wild that Marvel has had at least two really good Darth Vader runs.

I’ve never been the biggest FF fan but that run was the first time I was a monthly reader.

Fantastic Four by Waid and Ringo. Excellent Dr. Doom arc that isn’t 60 years old.

I was. I will be again. Not so much at the moment.

Mario Paint was a neat addition based on the fact that I had it as a kid. I’m not artistic enough to create anything super clever in it, but I’m glad it’s there for the old Flyswatter game alone.

You know, I’ve never played one of those!
