Encrypting data is a good thing. Retrofitting code to support client side data decryption-pain in the ass.

Spent the last 2 days trying to retrofit a new data source into existing code. New data source uses column level encryption, with private key management via certificates. IQueryable objects don’t work, need to move data objects to IEnumerables and deal with that issue.
