We needed to feed the kids. Hanging tough is good but punishing innocent children, adding this stress to the poor over the holidays would be a mistake on every level. Including politically.

The shutdown also threatens the $4.1 billion Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that helps families cover the cost of utilities or heating states expected to have funding for this winter. Almost 6 million households use the program, and as cold sets in it is not funded.

When you see how excited Trump, Russ Vought, and Republicans are about the government shutdown, it becomes pretty obvious the reason why they refused to negotiate a compromise with Democrats is because they wanted this and they completely own this, regardless of their lies.
