Contraflow cycle lane with wands is in the works. Should be installed soon.

If “leave to remain” isn’t a messed up enough term, the physical ID card they give you actually expires - so much for indefinite. Thankfully they’ve finally introduced a digital version (which presumably doesn’t expire?), but still…

Thanks for sharing that! I remember reading that when it came out; great essay. I still fondly recall pre 9/11 NY in my head. Definitely my favourite NY, even with the complete lack of decent bike lanes.

Looks fab! Do you know the opening date?

Getting off in Vieje I was wondering if you might be making an impromptu detour to Billund to visit the Lego house. Seemed improbable given your timetable.

I saw that this summer and wondered what it was doing so far from home! Thanks for the link explaining it.

I purchased 10 different brands of salty liquorice when I was in Norway this summer and those were definitely the best. Very… unique.

I finally kicked out the 10 year old, mainly because he kept fighting with his (7year old) sister. Also, that was just way too much weight for the bike. Probably should have done it sooner.

Oops, good catch ! I think I was thinking one thing and typing another.

@lucidstew.bsky.social you’re now being quoted in the ‘press’ (not mainstream, but they do good stuff)

Works appear to have commenced for the St John St works. Street open southbound only, doesn’t appear to have an ‘except cycles’. @maclondon.bsky.social

My friend’s parents called me ‘the mouth’ because I ate so much of their food after school. Then I would go home and destroy dinner and have the leftovers 2 hours later. I was insatiable! Riding 8 miles each way to school and running cross country probably didn’t help the situation.

Saw that yesterday, they were laying asphalt in the pouring rain, hopefully no durability issues over that. That stretch by the pub was truly awful to ride, so looking forward to riding it. I go this way a lot more often now that the Newington Green cycle track allows E-W movement.

I designed that bridge! (We did not specify that anti-climb paint).

@jonnelledge.bsky.social loved your newsletter piece on curation. I was similarly moved by Giuseppe Penone’s tree within a tree when I randomly wandered into the Hayward in 2020. The little tree is still IN THERE! Mind blown.

I saw it at an exhibition at the British Museum back in 2008, ‘The American Scene: Prints from Hopper to Pollock’. I’ve got a print of it at home (obs not an original).

This woodblock print by Werner Drewes also one of my fav’s. Fun fact two, I spent an entire summer inspecting that viaduct. We ended up meeting the guys at the fire academy and they gave us a tour. They actually have an entire (portion of) subway station and train in there to practice on.

One of my favourite bridges! By the amazing Gustav Lindenthal. Fun fact, the original plans for the viaduct over Randall’s and Wards island were steel truss piers, but those were switched out for concrete so the inmates couldn’t escape.

Good progress on the Boleyn Rd northbound cycle track. Looks like they’re about halfway up to Wordsworth Rd. @maclondon.bsky.social

All in about 2 1/2 months, obviously not working everyday. Then there were the untold hours trying to figure out HOW I was going to put it all together. Unfortunately didn’t have access to a suitable 3D CAD program, so it as all sorta seat of my pants.

Saw that on the bus as we were heading to st Pancras Friday morning, but didn’t have a chance to take a photo. Hopefully open soon (though I won’t be around to appreciate it, it’s interrail season!)

I’m usually all about the bikes here, but I do have a soft spot for this one car - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It took me several months to build and we finally had our performance yesterday.

The paving Machines left yesterday, so I doubt this will happen tonight.

Loads of progress last night. The southwest and mid-west raised tables complete and striped (still closed though). Still need to finish the last table on the southeast corner. Hopefully done by this evening.
