Then during their final scene, she could apologize to him - she knows her family did a lot of harm, and that’s part of why she runs off with Dmitry - she doesn’t want to be part of that legacy and she isn’t what Russia needs to heal. Gives Gleb a better reason not to kill her than “she’s cute” lol

Lots of missed opportunities with Gleb really. He would’ve been the perfect character to show the harm done to the Russian people by the ruling class - like imagine if his father had been killed on Bloody Sunday or something similar, he tells Anya that story, she realizes her family wasn’t perfect->

Yeah it’s so vague in the script - during “Neva Flows” he says he saw the Romanov kids when he was a boy, and then after Anya leaves he sings that line of the song again - so it’s like a *hint* that he maybe recognizes her, but there’s nothing in the rest of the show that confirms it

I just played Gleb (the new villain) in a community theatre production of the show! 100% agree it’s a big improvement - I just really wish they’d gone further, the show’s still way too uncritical of the Romanov dynasty. But it’s nice that a sorcerer didn’t cause the Revolution at least lol
