Factor in reportedly lower wages as well and it becomes an even bigger difference headroom wise

... But not that

Agree. Clear reputational risk to the club here if things blow up. Managing down the contract in silence is one thing. Renewing is entirely different in these circumstances.

Partey, Saliba, Kiwior, MLS back four incoming for Real at this rate. Get the wings back, lose all the defenders. Some season this.

One where the scouting video you guys did was useful. I know youtube comps are unreliable, but it was eye opening just how much of a different player he seems. Probably offers energy and agility, but not the touch, passing range and skill I was expecting. I'd prefer a more creative profile in the 6.

Mikel collects duel winners like he collects left backs.

Is Calafiori a better forward than defender?

Given Sterling looks unusable at this point, do we need a couple of physical options through the middle? Could we see Rice making an appearance at 9 this season?

Yep. I have no idea what he was still doing on the pitch for the last half an hour of that Newcastle tie. Makes no sense at all.

Agree. That's a link I like at first glance. Clearly age is an issue and you're not getting that money back, but in terms of potential immediate impact, there's a lot to like about it. Him being a fan doesn't hurt.

Not to be sniffed at.

Probably an old fashioned view imo. You hear plenty of swearing through ref mics and players aren't getting sent off. As long as it's not directed at the ref as dissent you're fine.
January 27, 2025 at 6:02 PM
Yep, going purely off what you get in Football Manager (assume that's at least loosely based on reality). You get really good prize money for every CL win.

Fair enough, but football doesn't have to be anything like rugby. Just take a minute or two to transparently work through things if you are sending someone off. That's if you really want VAR. Id be fine with just goal line tech and semi auto offside. Bin the rest in its current form.
January 27, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Yeah, it's noticeably different. A lot more transparent in their interactions generally (all of which viewers can listen too). Generally less ego and willing to collaborate with each other in real time to referee a complex sport. Also less the and us with the players. Attending club training etc.

Odd seeing how badly VAR has been implemented as someone who watches rugby too. Sure there's controversy here and there. But overall, it's so much more open and honest as an interaction. The ref and TMO collaborate to get to the right decision. There's no theatre of being sent to the screen.

She's not wrong.
January 26, 2025 at 2:20 PM
For sure. Not something that's worth expending to much energy on as a potential move. There's just no incentive at all for Newcastle to sell. You just don't let elite strikers go in their position. Even if Isak were to start agitating for a move, Newcastle would hold out for an insane bid.
