The Ontario provincial government has taken over 5 school
Boards and is now talking about eliminating locally elected school board trustees and centralizing all power in the hands of the govt. That’s not good for democracy and for our schools.

Woke up early on Friday to do 6 live interviews on @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social about #schoolboards, the #bill33 power grab & my @theconversation.com article. Here’s the link to the CBC London Morning with Andrew Brown interview: Is ditching school trustees a good idea? www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

Great convo with @craigneedles.bsky.social about the @tvdsb.bsky.social this afternoon. Good opportunity to clarify who exactly is responsible for the growing deficit at the TVDSB since it was put under supervision by the Ministry of Education.

Privatization has no place in Ontario’s post-secondary system. The Ontario government must permanently increase base funding so our universities will never be vulnerable to these companies again. I urge Western University to say no to Navitas. #NoNavitasUWO @uwofa1.bsky.social

The rest of my statement: Above all, I remain committed to all TVDSB students & their families.Once the Ministry appointed supervisor finishes their work, I look forward to returning to the TVDSB to continue my responsibilities to support student achievement & well-being.

“Ontario has effectively reduced per-student funding by $1,500 since the 2018-19 fiscal year.

Today, classrooms across Ontario have 4,990 fewer educators.”

A manufactured crisis right out of the Con playbook.

Don’t give Doug 4 more years to keep destroying public ed.

This looks like a very interesting article. I can’t wait to read it.

This is so true. There just isn’t enough money to meet the growing needs in our schools. Funding per pupil has not kept up with inflation.

“I am deeply concerned about any loss of #TVDSB students to our co-terminus boards. We have an excellent school board with school staff that work tirelessly to support student achievement and well-being. We can to support and retain students in our system.”
