I'd be a quitter, personally. I don't accept being yelled at by anyone, but my RBF is significant enough that it doesn't come up often.

I do prefer Lisa's choice, though.

This weekend, I had the honor of going to brunch with my baby (well, technically she's an adult now) sister! She recently moved to my area, and it's been really great seeing her more often, since it's a 15-minute drive instead of a 6-hour flight.

One thing I've heard about my book is that, though I make it pretty easy to tell what's going on, some of the vocabulary is a little more niche than I expected. So I decided to put together a series of posts on the extra-nerdy stuff, just to make life easier for readers.

Love and Nightmares is a dark, why-choose romantasy novel with monsters (some more humanoid than others) as MMCs. It's expected to be released fall of 2026.

I'm usually A, up to a point; I'll give them an extra turn or two to pull things together. I prefer my PCs to die to their own bad decision-making, not two crit failures in a row. But sometimes the dice say "Not today!" and I just have to respect that.

I mean, we all know the stereotypes about gamers are way exaggerated. But no group of people is usually *that* hot.

I mean, sure. Human touch and social connection and all that oxytocin that didn’t have anywhere to go, whatever. But an or**sm is an or**sm, and I’m happy to be responsible for my own. Arriving at the game store, I’m shocked when I change my mind; I wouldn’t mind him being involved in the situation at all, now that I think of it. It feels almost staged, like the proprietor intentionally set these guys up at the front of the open gaming section, right in the window like a display. The three of them are too attractive to be gamers, quite frankly; the stereotype about all gamers being gross scumbags who need to lose 100lbs and take a shower are false for sure, but in my experience they certainly don’t look like they belong on the cover of a magazine.

I'm a complete dice goblin. I almost gave out cheap polyhedral dice sets for Halloween.

Lisa takes after me, but how do the guys stack up?

Porter: totally normal, a few sets in case he needs substitutions
Simon: a bag of regular dice, with a fancy set for emergencies
Cole: A complete psycho
Cole is a psychopath. I take back every nice thing I ever said about him when I see him pull a single set of black polyhedral dice out of his pocket, and act like that’s all he needs. He sets them on the table in a little pile, exuding the confidence of a man who has never rolled a natural one and never intends to. “That’s it?” I ask. “I have some spares if you need to borrow.” “No thanks, these are all I need. What’s the point in having more than one set of dice? Not like you can really use them all.” We’ll see how he feels later on.
