i am noticing that many people lack the range to discuss immigrant communities and our needs or even humanize us

there is a woman talking about how the Board of Commissioners gives lip service even after a Park District employee shot and killed a kid in the Park

an SEIU park employee is here to make demands about healthcare, Parks relies on exploited hourly workers to operate

there are other requests in public comment related to fixing the lighting at sporting facilities across the city, programming at South Shore, support for drumming circles, and to drop Riot Fest because it imposes on infrastructure in the neighborhood

we are out of the public speaking related to increasing private property owner home value set in this meeting

But we are not of out the conversation related to private real estate interests, chicago keeps doing this

it's all land use choices and dispossession

the origin of the Chicago Park District small parks system is private real estate developers improving their property values

washington square park was the first of the small parks in chicago and there is a direct line between this origin story + public bathrooms being gatekept by park supervisors

i am starting to do some chicago specific research about why bathroom access is so limited and this is part of what chicago has to say for itself:

"the lack of public restrooms can be traced to 'an obsessive fear-really obsessive fear-of undesirables'"

the Open Meetings Act presupposes that liberalism is a good goal by itself and it's not

liberalism is only useful if we can shift power to people to have choice and autonomy

the white saviors, including chicago coalition for the homeless, operate in the same direction as the fascists

someone is here quoting an unhoused person, our power as people is not in the Open Meetings Act

allowing the State to determine process makes the cover to blame us for violence we endure

we have a series of white saviors who are up to speak also, and I'm not into these politics either

they concede that the Parks Commissioners have a lot to balance while crying as a white woman, it's two the sides of the same coin

she's almost in tears and needs to be protected

Chicago Park District really gives a lot of space to fascists under the cover of the Open Meetings Act

Parks doesn't have to do that, CPS limits the number of speakers by issue and how many times people can sign up for public comment — only allowed every other month and runs a lottery for speaking

the next speaker said "we completely ignore residents" — there are a lot of euphemisms for property owner and entitlement

one woman complained that people in encampments now have plugs to charge their cell phones, the horror

Nicole Foster Hill who has been the quintessential white woman grievance at Chicago Park District spoke

we took our chance to pass out the zines while she was speaking because no one should listen to these fascists

people are speaking and invoking their property rights as a reason to not be near poor people

"i am a neighbor of the park, it borders the backyards of 60 homes and there is no alley"

"the encampment was within 200 feet but now it's 15 feet from us"

there are a number of women here invoking "women and children first" language without any acknowledgement that this is historically how white women make the pipeline for lynchings of Black men

they just want their kids to play in the park guyssssss
