Looking through photos from my recent trip to Ireland, I found this one of Roscommon Castle. One of the things I loved most about Ireland was finding castle ruins we could explore for free. Staying in Roscommon for a few days, my husband and I simply walked over to this castle and took photos.

Took a tour of the Cork City Gaol (or Jail), an abandoned 19th-century jail in Ireland. Castle-like building and displays showing what a nightmare the place must have been for prisoners. Plants and flowers have sprung up on the abandoned buildings, with flowers popping up around the barred windows.

My husband put together storage shelves for my office closet! First box that went in there is a heavy one: copies of my Master's Thesis.

Sheep at Moll's Gap in Ireland. I was able to photograph one sheep close to a fence. The other two had apparently gotten out of their enclosure and were wandering down the road.

On the same days that we visited Ladies View in Ireland, we continued along the Ring of Kerry to Moll's Gap. One day was rainy and incredibly foggy; the second day we visited was sunny. The difference in what we could see was amazing! When the sun came out, it was like a veil had been lifted.

In Cork, Ireland, Blackrock Castle has an observatory. It's a very cool place. We visited the castle and attended an astronomy presentation there. You can see the telescope on top of the castle tower.

Photos from the Kenmare Stone Circle on the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. My husband and I visited the standing stones there, and we each hung a wish on one of the hawthorn faerie trees. Cards were provided for visitors to write down a wish and hang it on one of the hawthorn trees. ♥️

We only had a short amount of time in the town of Sligo, Ireland. While there, we toured the ruins of Sligo Abbey. I found it interesting how the ruins are surrounded by houses now.

Photos of some picturesque spots in the town of Sligo, Ireland. After I finished lunch at an outdoor restaurant table, a pigeon helped itself to my leftovers. 😄

One of the most scenic spots my husband and I saw in Ireland this year was Ladies View on the Ring of Kerry, named for the thrilled reaction of Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting upon seeing the view during Victoria's visit to Ireland in 1861. We went twice: on a rainy day, then on a sunny day.

After visiting Dún Beag Fort, we went out to dinner at a restaurant on the Dingle Peninsula, and then got ice cream. Even though the weather was cold, it's hard to resist the deliciousness of Irish ice cream!

Things can change so much over time, it's wonderful to have seen a site before it was damaged. In 2013, I visited Dún Beag Fort on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. In 2014, a storm knocked out part of the cliffs, took one of the stone structures with it. I went back this year; much is behind gates.

We first visited Muckross Traditional Farms in Killarney National Park, Ireland in 2013 and we went there again this year. It's a really interesting and scenic place. It shows what life was like on working farms in the 1930s and 1940s.

One of my favorite experiences on my recent trip to Ireland: having an incredible meal at a lakeside restaurant that had the ruins of a medieval castle on the grounds, and all the outdoor guests being given a woolen blanket because it was cold outdoors. (They also had heaters running outside.)
