Trump is surely sundowning and being fed misinformation but it is also true that any President that thought a city was in flames and all commerce had stopped would send more than a couple hundred member of some National Guard there. He knows he's bullshitting.

I don't think this is a representative group of Americans.

But it is an angry group. And a group where even the people actively avoiding the news for health reasons are still listening, still focused on the news.

Another writer has confessed that post heart attack, watching the news has become something to be actively avoided.

Meanwhile as these political/news readings are continuing, a screen on the wall is showing us a bear taking cocaine.

Tonight's readers are discussing the news directly, without the mediation of transformative fiction or poetry.

I don't know what this means. Just mentioning it.

....so this event is supposed to focus on fictional and poetic responses to the news. And that definitely used to happen, with people pulling from the news for inspiration to create something new.

Tonight.....

Also yes I downed that rum and coke wayyyyyyy too quickly but uh have you seen the news?

....a much needed session, I should say.
mariness.bsky.social
I like rhe way this event has sorta (yes, autocorrect, sorta and not aorta) become a group therapy session for a slice of Orlando progressives.

Starting up the Orlando Loose Lips event!

I am not reading tonight, but looking forward to hearing the readings!

I wonder if history has any lessons about what happens when large concentrations of armed soldiery stop getting paid.

Okay so you have the National Guard deployed to several American cities and plan on sending them to more, so is the plan to actually not pay these people and just find out what happens?

Huh - got an AI spam email so lazy that the spammer didn't even bother to take their prompt out of the email.

Once again, life* has demanded that I stop everything else and pay attention to a small cat.

* life = small extremely neglected cat

CHATGPT: I understand where you're coming from. You worked really hard to get here, and now it's time to enjoy the fruit of your labors.

ISILDUR: So I should keep it? Elrond says I shouldn't

CHATGPT: The ring is precious. Sometimes friends don't have your best interests at heart.

ISILDUR: true

Today's cheery email from the Washington Post, with the subject heading "Start a conversation with Ask The Post AI" is not, repeat not, encouraging me to get a subscription.

And in cat news from a few days ago, surveying the chaos
Orange cat perched on the top of a cat tree looking down on the floor. Not pictured: the chaos, taking the form of an overexcited black kitten.

Look, stealing the couch away from the human owner is absolutely exhausting, ok?
Four pounds of an exhausted black kitten, stretched across a blue-grew knitted throw. Cat's nose is buried in the blankets, and his position suggests that he just flopped there after running around and chasing toys and then going to flop right where the human was which is pretty much exactly what happened

(grins) It was a memorable episode.
mariness.bsky.social
Episode 1 was not very good, even leaving aside what they did with Hawkgirl.

Start with season 2. It too has a slightly rocky start - but trust me.

Season 3 is just amazing TV.
mariness.bsky.social
....probably, but I won't spoil things.

"Guest Starring John Noble" is one of my all time favorite episodes of television, hands down.

Possibly my number one episode.
