In his ruling, the district judge who originally heard the case wrote, "No criterion, other than race, can plausibly explain the veto of over 99% of the housing units located on the White sites which were originally selected on the basis of CHA'S expert judgment and at the same time the rejection of only 10% or so of the units on Negro sites."

Gardner is racist trash. The line about helping immigrants at the expense of Blacks is disgusting. Same article mentions that the amount CPD (many of whom live in his district and terrorize the Blacks he claims to care about) overspent on budgeted OT was 150M. More than was spent on immigrants
Ald. Jim Gardiner (45th Ward) blamed the city's financial crisis on the arrival of more than 51,000 people, many fleeing violence and economic collapse in Venezuela, in Chicago, most on buses paid for by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, between 2022 and 2024. Gardiner said Johnson had helped those primarily Latino residents at the expense of Black Chicagoans. That prompted pointed criticism from several of his colleagues, including Robinson, who told Gardiner, a White man who represents a ward where a majority of residents are White, to not speak about what the Black community needs. Chicago taxpayers spent a total of $268 million, with an additional $370.5 million coming from state and federal grants, to care for the migrants between August 2022 and December 2024.

On a Thursday in early September, more than 40 strangers logged in to Instacart, the grocery-shopping app, to buy eggs and test a hypothesis. Connected by videoconference, they simultaneously selected the same store — a Safeway in Washington, D.C. — and the same brand of eggs. They all chose pickup rather than delivery. The only difference was the price they were offered: $3.99 for a couple of lucky shoppers. $4.59 or $4.69 for others. And a few saw a price of $4.79 - 20 percent more than some others, for the exact same product. The shoppers were volunteers, participating in a study published on Tuesday and organized by the Groundwork Collaborative, a progressive policy group, and Consumer Reports, a nonprofit consumer publication. In tests in four cities across the country, nearly 200 volunteers checked prices on 20 grocery items on Instacart.

Right now, Instacart is quietly running experiments on millions of us while we shop for groceries online. They are trying to figure out exactly how much they can get away with charging you for breakfast cereal, lunch meat, pasta, and everything in between. How do I know? Katie Wells, PhD, the Groundwork Collaborative team and I teamed up with Consumer Reports and More Perfect Union to recruit more than 400 volunteer secret shoppers. We asked them to buy the exact same basket of groceries, from the exact same store, at the exact same time. You won't believe what we found: Instacart charged shoppers different prices for about 75% of the items in the basket-sometimes they charged as much as 23% more for the exact same item. Using Instacart's own estimates, we find that the Instacart tax could cost households as much as $1200 a year. We are in the midst of the largest grocery affordability crisis in a generation. Instacart's pricing tricks are making it worse. So why is this happening? I talked to Ben Casselman in the The New York Times about how when it comes to pricing, the ground has shifted under our feet.

Ironically, the IRA's survival was premised on the same logic Democrats hoped would pass cap-and-trade: that a loose alignment of corporations would support climate policies in exchange for subsidies, then convince Republicans to get on their side.

Lmao no one is “surprised” swift isn’t going after trump for using her music for the same reason no one is surprised that musk, andreessen et al were dems right up until they had something to lose.
Swift, however, has said nothing in public. The silence is surprising from an artist known to be litigious over unsanctioned use of her music or likeness. Swift has previously sued a theme park for playing her music without a license, come for Etsy sellers for using her lyrics in unofficial merch, taken on YouTube creators over copyright infringement and demanded retroactive songwriting credits from newer artists (including Rodrigo).

The Department of Homeland Security has claimed since the outset of the operation that they were going after the "worst of the worst," including convicted murderers, rapists and other violent offenders who were allegedly taking advantage of Illinois' sanctuary policies to terrorize the citizenry. But the government's own data, provided in a filing posted to the public docket Friday, appeared to show otherwise. Of the 16 arrestees with criminal histories — or about 2.5% of the 614 people — five involved domestic battery, two were related to drunken driving, and one allegedly had an unidentified criminal history in another country.
