Absolutely right, and it just funnels people into the criminal justice system, which makes everything worse for them and, in the long term, for the community as a whole.

There is zero evidence writers festivals or arts events are linked to these attacks (obviously they are not?). For the SMH to just broadcast this specific, baseless allegation without even saying “by the way, police have no evidence to support these incendiary claims” is extremely poor.
