As one window shuts (@iambapoet.com), another opens – and this one's for the whole of October.

If you have an 'after' or #ekphrastic poem that's looking for a home, that home could be @afterpoetry.com.

I've handled all manner of wildlife. Bare-handed, usually.

Tried grabbing the rat (I was wearing gardening gloves) once I'd discovered its hiding place, but it literally stood up to me – tried shitting me up! Then it bolted outside. My ginger tom ran it down and killed it with a single neck bite in under 15 seconds, despite Ratty's three-second head start.

Two summers ago, a rat came into our living room and stayed under our sofa for a fortnight. We have many cats, so the fucker was probably scared to make a run for the back door. Sofa is a heavy corner unit – though eventually, I knew I'd have to take it apart to free the rat. 🧵

Is this my brother writing in?

Get over it, dude! You lost!

Speaking as a reformed workaholic, let me tell you that chalking up more hours than most at work may bring you promotion, but it'll also burn you the fuck out. Twice had work-related near breakdowns. It's really not worth the pitiful, superficial rewards, folks. 🫤

Have you heard that particular work played live? I'm guessing not. Performed well – and I mean exceptionally well – it can be an electrifying, soul-uplifting experience. One that stays with you for years.

I wouldn't be so sure. Our cats fetch in both from the bottom of our garden. Plus voles. Plus shrews. Plus ...

A gathering of poets is still one of the best things in this world.

That is fucking ridiculous! Like those hot chocolate drinks where they drizzle molten chocolate pieces all over the outside of the mug. People need a fucking word with their goblin selves.

They should also make the tips on umbrellas a lot less hypodermicy. Or is that Bulgarians?

Haven't watched it. But recently listened to every episode of 'That Mitchell and Webb Sound'. There's gold in there – but duff stuff, too. I'm gonna wager it'll still have better sketches than the new show. Armstrong and Miller went through similar: the shows for Channel 4 beating their BBC outing.

No, she really shouldn't have.

There's a reason why, in the serious hi-fi community, BOSE stands for Buy Other Stereo Equipment ...

Or AKG. A little 'toppy' (and occasionally too bright) for some ears, but I prefer hearing everything in the mix, not just the overextended bass wallop Beats adds to every fucking note. They're the only cans that make a string quartet sound like thrash metal.

Like this fess. Just stuck myself with an EpiPen to keep from lapsing into a coma.

So shall we meet again next year for National Poetry Day, wearing flowing bardic robes, and proclaim in the agora like Homer, sing in the towns like Arnaud Daniel, or shall we meet again tomorrow and quietly share our latest compositions in a generous fellowship showing that every day is poetry day?
