Watched a Uruguay v Venezuela World Cup qualifier there a few years ago, nice and accessible to the city centre by foot. Fantastic museum there too.

My piece on athlete Ron Hill (1938-2021) is now in Oxford DNB. Hill gained multiple honours in cross-country and distance running, and used the skills from his PhD in textile design to create a clothing range. Oxford DNB is a subscription service: check your library www.oxforddnb.com/newsitem/894...
A monochrome photo of a white male athlete celebrating at the end of a race on a running track. He has his right arm raised as he crosses the line, and he has got a big smile. He is wearing a strong vest and white shorts, and the number 108 on his vest. Behind him is part of the stadium's grandstand, packed with spectators.

Our final paper of this penultimate session of #footycon25 sees Mark Orton
once again regaling us with his research on Argentinian football as he tells us about the lesser known son of Alexander Watson Hutton, Arnold, and his role in the history of Argentine football & rugby

Thoroughly enjoyed presenting about early Argentine international footballer Arnoldo Watson Hutton @footycon.bsky.social in Belfast

Brilliant idea! Next they’ll invent seatbelts and call them “freedom straps.”

🇦🇷 Matías Almeyda on River Plate’s 17-year wonderkid Franco Mastantuono:

‘After Maradona they said there’d never be anyone like him; and then Messi appeared. After Messi I can see another one emerging and he’s from Azul and he’s called Franco Mastantuono.’

As it is the Superclásico between River Plate and Boca Juniors today, a throwback to when I attended the fixture in 2006 (with away fans!)

Will the trophy end up in the @riverplateoficial.bsky.social museum again in July?
