Texas politicians created time for organized prayer in schools. Now, they’re pushing students to recite a prayer “taught by Jesus Christ.”

Let’s be clear: It’s not the government’s role to decide what children should pray — or whether they should pray at all.

The endorsement comes as Texas elected officials push for more Christianity in public life and as Paxton’s office fights a legal challenge to religion in education.

Today, a federal judge blocked a Texas mandate to post the Ten Commandments in classrooms from taking effect in a few school districts.

Faith isn’t something the government can force on kids in a classroom. This ruling is temporary as the legal battle continues.

The state has no business telling us whether to worship a god or which god to worship, promoting a religious text, deciding which parts of the Bible are essential and which are disposable, and settling matters of biblical interpretation--my op-ed on Ten Commandments blog.smu.edu/opinions/202...
