📷 Marc Royce Colour photograph of Matt Damon, and again there is the impression given of natural lighting, a feature of all the photographs in this thread and I'm wondering if this is his choice along with the straight forward look to camera and plain surroundings. Here he rests his folded arms on the cafeteria-like table leaning forward a bit, the bluish grey background with grey curtain showing on his right reminds me of a photo booth. It's as if he found any old spot, plonked himself down, looked at the camera and said 'take your picture' - accept it's pretty perfect!

Two photographs by Christopher Anderson of Matt Damon that appear to be identical apart from one being colour and the other black & white, except they are not quite. The general impression is of a dark room with natural lighting coming in from our left. The left side of Damon's face is black shadow, the right side is half shadow with a bright patch that's quite geometric suggesting a window. His right eye in the colour photograph seems to look down to his right, in the black & white it seems to look at the camera but when I check up close they look the same. There is the smallest of glints coming from his left eye out of the blackness in both photographs.

This time she is standing amidst an over the top array of flowering plants of different colours. She's also wearing a top with a green leaf pattern.

It's a half shot, brown coat, striped scarf (browns, muted greens) brown skin, brown hair seemingly blowing across her face and further off right to left as we look the flowers perfectly still, off white shirt, her lips the only red, muted red.

Weaver, bare shouldered, black long gloves to her armpit almost, elbows together then arms split towards hands seen in profile forming a vase-like shape around the bottom half of her face accentuated by a line of pearls from the tip of the little finger to the elbow on each glove. Her hair brushed outwards beyond the vase of her hands. She could have been perfectly symmetrical but the meeting of her elbows is just off centre to the left, deliberate. At the bottom the black of her elbows and the background match. For the purposes of this thread she is a plant.

Up to her left are the large fleshy spiked leaves of an algave(?) plant. Then in the distance at the top something softer like conifers can be seen. She's wearing black, the rest of her body difficult to distinguish from the background. Altogether, a somewhat hostile, dare I say, alien looking environment.

The Bette Davis portrait on the wall behind her as she sits in the photograph in the quoted post is not a photograph as I first assumed but acrylic on masonite (hard board!) and is by Ted Lemaster. There appears to be nothing known about him on the internet other than a few auction sales. This sold from Davis's estate for 800 dollars. He used the photograph on the right which is either a still or publicity shot relating to All About Eve. The painting is tacky. I would like to think Bette Davis was aware of that and it's all part of the kitsch of her photograph in the quoted post. The painting is a gloss of how she was even then and makes for an ironic contrast with the very elderly face we see in the quoted post photograph.

📷 Julia Margaret Cameron Albumen print. Brown tones. Almost fully a profile shot, we see a glimpse of Tennyson's left eye as he looks to his left and down. He holds a book in his left hand in his lap but towards us so the book and hand occupy the right hand corner and are closest to the camera. He wears a cloak the collar of which curves round his neck and on to his left shoulder. With this pose we can now see the back of his dark frizzy hair, wind blown in appearance, against the lighter coffee cream colour of the smooth background wall or screen.

Could be looking at something or lost in thought, but we know he is just trying to keep remarkably still for however long it took and we are talking minutes. His almost bright white collar stands out. He wears a jacket, waistcoat and a bow tie. His hair and beard are quite frizzy. The background above his shoulders framing his head is interestingly random, a sheet or curtain bunched up in places but with some sharp folds, earlyish Naum Gabo😄.

He looks directly at the camera presumably concentrating on holding perfectly still, his hat like a berry or doctoral cap in appearance, slants from left to right on his head as we look. His hair can't be seen for the blackness, his moustache and beard like a frizzy brown/black waterfall covers our view of his neck but for a small slither on the right.

There are a few pictures from this photoshoot of Bette Davis but I can't find the photographer. From the look on Davis's face I like to think there is something knowingly kitsch going on here. She is sitting cross legged, patterned black lace tights, hands relaxed by her side, big pearl jewelled ring and bracelets to match, black dress, strings of pearls round her nect, white hat with black veil, her head facing our left but her eyes, wide eyed, turn to look at the camera, behind her her Oscar's lined up Infront of a large photographic portrait of her face. All of that occupies centre left. On the right, white cupboards, round table and lamp.

📷 David Bailey I've cropped and collaged two photographs of Brit Ekland that probably come from the same Vogue photoshoot. Both are profiles but one is in colour and shows no clothing the other is a black silhouette where she has something furry on her head and round her neck. One photograph I've tilted so their heads match as they face each other, so the collage includes the straight edges and a corner of the colour photograph against a grey background.

You might enjoy The Mount Without (formerly St Michael's). It's now a venue and to view you would need to contact them beforehand (pics). When you are at the Catholic Cathedral in Clifton there is also All Saints, with the John Piper fibreglass windows.
