I do and I suppose there are others. I read an essay ten years ago by Svetlana Boym about what she called "Off-modern." Look her up. She was a professor at Harvard who died of cancer in 2010.

The musicians were aware of each other and truly interested in new approaches. The U.S. contemporary music composers were breaking away from what was becoming a reified music landscape and jazz was looking to do away with the mounting cliches and reification as well.That’s the simple version.
