Am giving talk at TU Delft today at their Green Village which is an innovation centre where they can build experimental structures without having to conform to building regulations. Pretty cool.

Reread Fahrenheit 451 this weekend. Written in the era of the Un-American Activities Committee when the enemy was communism. Censorship, repression, the "righteous" fight, its all there. Books burn at 415F.

You know what would be great to reduce aviation emissions? Tax jet fuel like every other fuel, invest this money in the railway and ban flights on every route that can be travelled by train in, say, less than 6 hours.

I dont often agree with Ryan Air boss Michael O’Leary but he is right about SAF "There is no possibility of meeting 6% SAF by 2030; not a hope in hell."
Thats because the bio feedstock for SAF will hit food production and cause inflation. www.theguardian.com/business/202...
‘This is real progress’: airlines on sustainable aviation fuels and the chances of net zero flying
The EU and UK have imposed mandates, and investors see its value – but the industry has mixed views

In other words our current trajectory is very problematic for future generations.

Also only 10% of global population flies. The airlines aim is to increase that to 50%. This will very quickly cancel out any gains from SAF. As well as fuelling over tourism
in places like Barcelona and Paris.

Dont forget we dont tax aviation fuel, so we are subsidising this form compared to petrol cars ect..

@rsc.org to publish a joint report that identifies critical jobs and skills gaps stalling the UK’s ability to deliver a successful circular economy.

Read the report 👉 iom3.info/3WhAhpd
First page of the report titled 'Jobs and skills for a circular economy: a cross-sector perspective from the chemical and materials science and engineering communities' on an IOM3-branded colourful background. Also includes logos of IOM3, Institution of Chemical Engineers, and Royal Society of Chemistry.

By the way, the birth steam railways 200 years ago was a kind of accident. Steam cars were what the engineers of 19th century were dreaming of. They proved impossible at the time. The story forms Chapter one of my book Its a Gas.
