Ten years ago today I was on an Antarctic cruise with my siblings. We were privileged to be with our dad as he fulfilled his life's dream and set foot on the the last of the 7 continents. It was the adventure of a lifetime, and a fantastic experience to share with my family!

1/ Before there was Disclosure Day...
there was Dr. J. Allen Hynek's work on Project Blue Book, his development of the Close Encounters UFO terminology, & his involvement with Steven Spielberg's blockbuster 1977 UFO movie. You can read about it in my book "The Close Encounters Man".

Put some tasty UFO and IGY reading under your Christmas tree this year! Link to my website www.markoconnell.info to see where to buy my two books. I'd prefer you buy them at your local indie bookstore, but chain stores are fine too!

Today, December 6th, is my birthday! On this day I was "reborn" after surviving my bone marrow transplant and restaging my immune system. I have endless gratitude to all the family, friends, nurses and doctors who got me through it all. To celebrate I went out on a donut run!

I had a great time this weekend at the Wisconsin Book Festival talking about my new book, "The Year Science Changed Everything." Thanks to everyone at UW-Madison and the National Science Foundation's US Ice Drilling Program for making this possible!

I just got a fundraising email from James Carville. James fucking Carville?? Are you shitting me, Democratic Party? That hopeless, pompous fuck up is still on the team??

I didn't contribute and I unsubscribed. This is a real problem for you.

1/ I'm having a real metaphysical moment here... At my agent's suggestion I ran my new book,THE YEAR SCIENCE CHANGED EVERYTHING, through an AI tool (to sell more books, you know), & the result is kind of fascinating, but kind of weird. I am still processing...

I watch bad movies then read up on them to see what made them so bad. Lately I've noticed a weird trend where reviewers will write that a movie bombed, then add that, "in recent years, however, the film has developed a cult following." I call BS on the crap movie cults.

Today marks 15 years of marriage with this beautiful soul. How did I get so lucky?

This 4th of July seemed like a good day for Monica & me to tour the beautiful grounds of the Carter Center here in Atlanta and pay our respects to one of the most decent, honorable and admirable presidents we've ever had.

Lately I've been preoccupied with my second book "The Year Science Changed Everything," so it was nice to see my first book at the local bookstore yesterday, displayed "cover out"!

Maybe we should just give him the Nobel Prize and he'll go away.

1/ I love that once you're part of the Star Trek family, you're in forever! I just got an invitation from the good folks at the Treksperts Briefing Room podcast to talk about one of the Deep Space 9 episodes I wrote way back in the 1990s & I can't wait. It never gets boring!

1/ My interview on Beth Mund's "Casual Space" podcast is up! On this visit we talk about "The Year Science Changed Everything," my new book about the International Geophysical Year of 1957 and how it still benefits us every day.

1/ Really bizarre day: started with a bumpy interview about my new science history book, then news that my Ancient Aliens episode premieres tonight, only to have that news retracted by Discover...

I'm psyched that I'll be giving a talk about my new book "The Year Science Changed Everything" at the Wisconsin Book Festival/Science Festival in Madison this October. I did this event when my first book came out and I loved it--the second time should be twice as fun!

I recently did a fun interview about my new book, "The Year Science Changed Everything," with the ever-inspiring Beth Mund for her Casual Space podcast. We covered a lot of ground and had a lot of fun, and I can't wait for our talk to get posted!

1/ Because people ask, my book The Year Science Changed Everything was in part inspired by Donald Fagen's 1982 hit song "IGY"

IGY stands for International Geophysical Year, & Fagen imagines it as a future utopia where we "trust machines to make big decisions," cities are powered by the sun...
