We don’t mourn non-familial kinship very well, but seven years ago today I had the last of many drinks with my excellent friend Masaki. He was important in my early queer life, and then for 20+ years until he died a few years ago.
He wasn’t a daily presence in later years, but I miss him often.

What a privilege tonight to hear the iconic feminist poet Hiromi Itō, translator Jeffrey Angles and daughter, composer/sound artist Kanoko Nishi, as part of Asia Triennial Manchester. Their reading/performance of Killing Kanoko, with Kanoko herself accompanying, was mindblowingly powerful!

Love to the hundreds of Manchester queer and trans folk and allies that showed up yesterday and/or today. No time now for backing off - in every community and every workplace we will continue to demand justice, until the institutions that have so dramatically failed us and our kin change course. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

Proud as always of our union’s unequivocal support of trans people. There’s also a demo Friday afternoon at 3pm in Manchester. Hope to see many of you there.

Well the Romans certainly have a very picturesque setting for demonstrations and I couldn’t think of a better demand right now than today’s call to “disarm the patriarchy”

For the next month, I’m a visiting professor at the Istituto Italiano di Studi Orientali at Sapienza University of Rome. Looking forward to meeting students and working on some research collaboration. Stay tuned too for details of a public lecture in a few weeks, if any of you happen to be nearby!
