7. A Caribbean Mystery (Agatha Christie, 1964)
As generic as the title. But Miss Marple apparently seems to come around on steel drum bands.

6. I Hope This Finds You Well (Natalie Sue, 2024)
Book version of an office sitcom undercut with a prestige TV “dark secret.” (It doesn’t work here.) Better at observing anxiety, self-loathing, and how co-workers often fail to see the quiet desperation their peers live with.

4. Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? (Agatha Christie, 1934)
The upside of trying to read all of Christie’s books is finding something playful and witty like this that, I suspect, is less heralded. Her books seem bound to their times, but this seems more amenable to a modern remake.

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses (Sarah J. Maas, 2015)
Several co-workers are fans of the author, so I’m diving in. Roughly a BEAUTY AND THE BEAST reworking. Drags for the first half or so but eventually picks up. Wary of the Whedon influence & some fantasy tics but will press on.

2. The Mirror Crack’d from Side to Side (Agatha Christie, 1962)
I finished the Poirot novels in 2024 and am working through the Miss Marple books. The surprise to me is how little she tends to be in them. Clever solution and a pretty good mystery.

1. THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER (C.S. Lewis, 1952)
Reading the Narnia books in chronological order. This one has more action, helping to offset the lack of characterization and so much allegory in these books. Or maybe my failure to be thoroughly won over is not being a kid?
