I don't really feel like I'm retaining the core concepts as I go. But at each milestone, I have something working that I can go back and study. It's such a different way to learn! There's no abstracting a concept from someone else's approach, just deciphering something in an already-familiar context

While I am adding some functionality, I'm mostly focusing on learning Ansible best practices and getting better at making this scalable. Learning how to use roles, tasks, etc. the right way. It feels nice to be able to switch between staging and production inventories so easily now.

I didn't know about nohup, so that's a good tip! I would probably still use tmux for the ability to detach from the process on one computer, then walk over and attach to it from another. (I'm a progress bar junkie. If I go too long without checking progress, I get the tremors.)

Having a self-hosted github replacement is a homelab culture thing. Plus this way I can have commit messages like, "Oh, foul the cursed thing! What demon from the depths of hell created thee?!" and not have to worry about random people thinking I'm insane.
