“We just don't recognize life's most significant moments while they're happening. Back then I thought, "Well, there'll be other days."

“I didn't realize that that was the only day”

Dr. Archibald "Moonlight" Graham - Field of Dreams
It’ll take a big change in attitude but Starmer really needs to be looking at reasons to do something rather than always being over cautious and trying to find a reason not to do something

Facts and reality are now on the side of pro Europeans he needs to grab the opportunity before it’s too late

UK RW press need to make up their minds, too. They've finally twigged that Brexit is an unholy mess but accuse Starmer of treachery for his timid "reset".

No, it was so easy to do all you get is a parking ticket

We mustn’t forget that the potential next Prime Minister of UK was the advocate of a “clean break” (no withdrawal agreement) Brexit where no rights were protected for anyone

Yet apparently some fools still try to blame Europe for not looking after them

Was he looking in the mirror when he said it?

Jenrick is Brexitism personified

Like all the ex-tories who have crossed to Reform he will add nothing substantial to the party

It will still be Farage and a bunch of misfits

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”

It’s all extremely recent history and it’s impossible to claim that Europe took anything away from us

Even my goldfish can remember

exactly this 👆

nobody is talking about "Labours brexit".

Farage doesn't have a huge majority of seats in parliament.

Labour do. Labour have even admitted brexit has caused huge economic problems - but they refuse to fix it.
Henry Zeffman: Less than meets the eye to Starmer's words on Brexit
This week, the PM was trying to set the scene for what is to come on the UK-EU relationship, sources say.

It would help if Starmer stopped being so worried about reasons for not doing things and instead focused on the many obvious reasons to do something far more ambitious

Constantly ruling stuff out is not helping our country or economy and certainly won’t win him many votes from either side
January 15, 2026 at 10:50 AM
But the fact he can’t summon the courage to tell people like the Anglo (not) European whiner that they are wrong, that FoM wasn’t taken away by Europe and that Spain isn’t punishing him is ridiculous

If he really is as pro rejoin as he claims then he should want to explain the facts

It’s not just EU citizens that are alienated

This kind of deliberate disinformation alienates a lot of UK citizens too

He doesn’t speak for all of us

We know what happened, and most importantly how we can change it
January 15, 2026 at 9:53 AM
If you follow this flawed and ludicrous logic through, if you consider that freedom of movement was a separate stand alone thing and it would have remained after Brexit if the EU27 hadn’t taken it away, then there must be a danger if we ever rejoin the EU that it doesn’t get separately restored

You do realise that this thread is about something very important that Starmer is RULING OUT meaning it will be very difficult if not impossible to achieve any meaningful improvement to the existing situation

Repeatedly posting old newspaper stories that we have all seen already isn’t helping

The ”classe dominante” - the English Establishment - is screwed.

When Toto pulls back the curtain in the Wizard of Oz, observe how frightened the little man operating the machinery is. That’s them. Their façade is crumbling.

Transport for the North might actually be given some proper funding at last

Or will it all be controlled from Westminster?
