A vital Challenge Cup win on Wednesday for the Cardiff Devils followed by a 3-point weekend.

Not perfect, but it could have been a lot worse.

Bizarre game. Devils dominant for most of the first two periods, but somehow 3-1 down.

Then got it back it to 3-3 despite the 3rd period being fairly even.

Giants totally dominated OT and got the winner.

Would have taken a point after 40mins but disappointed it wasn’t 2.

Poor Ben Bowns. Outstanding performance and robbed of a shut-out by one of the most blatantly wrong refereeing calls I’ve seen in 35+ years of watching hockey.

You can criticise the new Sheffield netminder all you like (and yes he made some shockers) but for the opening 30 odd mins the Steelers were awful in defence and produced nothing in offence.

But as poor as Sheffield were the Devils were very very good in those opening 30 mins

You’ve almost got to feel sorry for any Steelers fans who travelled down on a cold Wednesday night to watch that pitiful performance by their team.

And so, despite all those cocky tweets from Sheffield on Friday night, we end the weekend pretty much as we started in. Albeit with Cardiff in arguably a slightly stronger position.

I know it’s still early in the season but I reckon it was vital we came back from being two goals down to win last night #CardiffDevils

Still annoyed the following morning with Devils’ performance last night.

Clan are a good side, better than their league position, but we seemed to want to ease through the game without doing the hard things right.

Can’t take a night off in the EIHL. Two big points dropped.

Attacking football and promotion back to Nations League Group A.

Couldn’t really ask for more from Bellamy’s first Wales campaign.
