Blue Jays-Yankees Game 4: Home Plate Umpire Scouting Report

Tony Randazzo is a pitcher-friendly umpire. You'll most likely notice it on low pitches to right-handed hitters.

Cubs-Padres Game 3 - Home Plate Umpire Scouting Report

D.J. Reyburn: A little pitcher-friendly. Most noticeable for right-handed hitters on the outside pitch and the high pitch.

My World Series pick in the spring was Cubs over Rangers

That obligates me to pick Cubs until they’re knocked out

So

Reds in 3
Cubs in 3
Yankees in 3
Tigers in 2

Maybe today is the day the Mets win a game in which they enter the 9th inning trailing - would be the first this season

Congratulations to Michael A. Taylor on a 12-year career with the Nationals, Royals, Twins, Pirates, and White Sox 👏

The 2021 AL Gold Glove winner plays his final game today against the Nationals. Taylor spent his first seven seasons with the Nationals and was a member of their 2019 World Series
Thank You Michael A. Taylor
Washington Nationals → Kansas City Royals → Minnesota Twins → Pittsburgh Pirates → Chicago White Sox

Gary Cohen just brought up the 1977 Cubs going from 21 games over to finishing .500 for the season.

The last time the Cubs were 21 over .500 that year, they won a game 16-15 in 13 innings which produced a really really bizarre box score

C.J. Kayfus went to the Ernie Pantusso school of getting hit by pitches ...

Kudos to ANYONE who gets the reference :)

I'm kinda hoping that tomorrow comes down to simultaneous finishes in extra innings with Nolan McLean on the mound for the Mets and Hunter Greene on the mound for the Reds

Pagan's pitched 4 days in a row. Greene's gotta be the closer, right?

This is a great addition

I help different MLB broadcast crews and I share pitch usage splits almost every time rather than overall numbers

The splits are so much more useful
mikepetriello.bsky.social
A fun and hopefully useful new addition to Baseball Savant player pages this morning: an easy at-a-glance platoon pitch usage table to the top of player pages. A lot easier to see how differently one pitcher can act based on hitter side.

Here's Shota Imanaga: baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-playe...

Great addition!

Now can we get every broadcast to show the splits (with rounded off percentages) rather than say a pitcher throws a changeup 20% of the time when all his changeups are to oppo-hand batters?
