It's not just about velocity. It's about the specific look at that pitcher's release, movement, etc.

You probably keep seeing the thing about how there's a penalty for RP facing same batter 3x in a postseason series, and over time that's true, but it's really noisy. Didn't happen last year. Isn't happening so far this year.

Wrote about it a year ago: www.mlb.com/news/world-s...

two that I know of

I did one, Sawchik did one

LOVE THESE

but this color scheme is also personally an appeal to me, the guy who thinks Dallas has the best unis in hockey

(shorts are lame though)

isn't the difference that it's pretty clear if the player did well or not, but that we still have little idea how to evaluate managerial performance?

I think money buys you a good chance at a ticket to the playoffs, and a lot less than that once you're in the playoffs.

Not giving him a pass. Just not screaming for his head. I don't really care what they do here.

because the rotation was injured, the defense looked bad, Soto was gone, and we all thought Baltimore would be better.

not super relevant in terms of talent level on the field against one opponent in a best of 5.

I get that money buys talent, but from the manager's POV, no one's saying Rodón is a better pitcher than Schlittler right now.

I'm just not sure I agree with you on "should have beaten" the Jays, or that this was a 97 win team that underperformed.

If it's just time for a new voice and a change yeah, I get that.

I don't have any particularly strong opinion on who should manage the Yankees but I think where I land is this: a team I didn't think would make the playoffs and which suffered the loss of a top 10 SP won 94 games and a playoff round

No doubt, he pitched terribly. But it's a coda to his whole career right there.
mikepetriello.bsky.social
awwww, blowout, maybe the last time he ever pitches ever, I get this one
mikepetriello.bsky.social
This is ugly as hell and I hate it, but at this point, just let Kershaw take it the whole way here. Probably the last time he'll ever pitch. Save the other arms.
mikepetriello.bsky.social
The prevent defense only prevents winning.
mikepetriello.bsky.social
Kershaw back out for the 8th, and Suarez still in there and shoving, a true pitching duel like days of old
mikepetriello.bsky.social
i have enjoyed the clips of poor Hazel getting bombarded by expletives
mikepetriello.bsky.social
People complain about starters not being allowed to go deep into games, but here's Clayton Kershaw finishing off the 7th inning in October, just as the good lord intended
mikepetriello.bsky.social
There's some real chaotic poetry to Teoscar Hernandez and Nick Castellanos both trying to play right field in this game

got that Pilots shirt ready go to over here

One of the Blue Jays, Mariners, or Tigers will be in the 2025 World Series. Think on that. Very cool.

For very different geographical reasons, both Toronto/Seattle and Toronto/Detroit are fantastically exciting series

My favorite thing about baseball is its unparalleled literary history.
My second-favorite thing about baseball is how failure is the norm and nobody can succeed through force of will.
My third-favorite thing about baseball is this:

there are not a lot of sports where a person the shape of Alejandro Kirk could be playing at the highest level at the end of the season
