Yes, but the French "left vs. right" split in modern France is from the Third Republic, not really the original usage. It's like how "liberal" in the US was redefined in the New Deal and Civil Rights era--in both cases, it had to do with whether minorities/workers were substantively equal.

What drives this kind of anti-vax politics in Alberta? I associate it in the US with American evangelicalism, "the paranoid style" aspect of the US political culture, and alienation from monstrous US healthcare. Are Alberta Conservatives influenced by the US or is it more specifically Canadian?

Yeah, a state school in a blue state would be pretty good for those, I'd think. I'd personally consider CUNY but not everyone would want to live in NYC for college, which I get. But the city has a lot of unique experiences for music and literature.
