We updated our paper "Constrained free energy minimization for the design of thermal states and stabilizer thermodynamic systems" in preparation for #SQuInT2025 tomorrow:

Joint work w/ M. Minervini, M. Chin, J. Kupperman, N. Liu, I. Luo, M. Ly, S. Rethinasamy, K. Wang
Constrained free energy minimization for the design of thermal states and stabilizer thermodynamic systems
A quantum thermodynamic system is described by a Hamiltonian and a list of conserved, non-commuting charges, and a fundamental goal is to determine the minimum energy of the system subject to constrai...

When you realize the whole yearly budget for Quantum journal is equal to 8 Nature APCs - and they don't even wreck your paper in proof stage because...there is none

yes, something like this. it was already considered by arxiv admins

187 total entries for quant-ph on a single day suggests it might be time to split up quant-ph into at least two separate categories:

I really wish people would stop using AI to write their papers for them, but I think this is a hopeless wish that will not come true.

Joint work with Kaiyuan Ji and Seth Lloyd now available at

This paper identifies the communication capacity for sending information from the future to the past through a noisy closed timelike curve. The formula is reminiscent of mutual info but in general can be larger.

Also, sharing for friends:

Anyone fancy a (minimal teaching load) tenure track position on quantum computing on a sunny island 🌤️ 🏝️? The Cyprus Institute are also hiring a tenure track assistant proff on quantum algorithms.

thanks a lot! I submitted the form. Let's see what happens.

(In other news, I randomly ran into Michael Lawler on my way to lunch yesterday and we had a pleasant lunch together.)

Things would be a bit easier if the Oxford English dictionary could add the following words:

infimization
infimize
supremization
supremize

I think mathematicians use these words regularly even though they are not official English words.

Joint work "Solving Optimal Power Flow using a Variational Quantum Approach" w/ Thinh Viet Le & Vassilis Kekatos:

arxiv.org/abs/2509.00341

Optimal power flow (OPF) is an optimization problem central in the operation of electric power systems. We propose a variational q. paradigm for solving OPF.
Solving Optimal Power Flow using a Variational Quantum Approach
The optimal power flow (OPF) is a large-scale optimization problem that is central in the operation of electric power systems. Although it can be posed as a nonconvex quadratically constrained quadrat...

My colleague's submission was rejected from QCRYPT, but he indicated that several people have been coming up to him during the lunch breaks to tell him how useful his result is and how they have been making use of it in their own work.

Does that make up for the rejection? :)
