#TressoftheEmeraldSea by #BrandonSanderson has a lighter more comedic tone despite the action sequences definitely landing more Adult. If you've bounced off of Sanderson books before like I have, this one stuck for me. I think it's a good mostly singular story with a fun worldbuilding idea. 📚💙

#TheServiceberry by #RobinWallKimmerer is a short novel that expounds upon how nature spreads abundance in ecology. The author proposes how we could learn from nature & apply it to our economy, our community, our neighborhood & our own framing of the world around us. It's refreshing & inspiring. 📚💙

#TheLiesofLockeLamora by #ScottLynch is the first book of an enthralling fantasy set in a charming world.
The titular Gentleman Bastards are an engaging & cultivated cast of characters & Locke's extemporaneous games ever-spun webs have inadvertently pulled the threads of greater spider's games 💙📚

#MeSseD by writer #JayBKalagayan and primary artist #DylanSpeeg is a comic book series about the day to day life of a city employee; Lilliput, for the orwellian sounding Metropolitan Sewer District.

Where the normalcy of the city sits precariously atop of a slew of pulpy sewer horror monsters! 📚💙

#LegendsandLattes by #TravisBaldree is a wonderful and cozy slice of life story held inside a fun fantastical world. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants a fun comedic jaunt with a great cast of characters and a heartwarming ending! 📚💙

#BlackAFHistory by #MichaelHarriot is a deep dive history book that will forever change your perspective, if you genuinely engage with the severe and intensive care taken to look at the systems of power and oppression of black and african americans who did not get to write history in their favor. 📚💙

#VerityVoxandtheCurseofFoxfire is a YA fantasy that captures the nostalgic feeling of wanderlust woven with whimsical horror of the unimaginabe nature of ancient places like Appalachia.
Verity uses my favorite version of magic & I love the real to life perspective of intimate magic in folklore. 📚💙

#Apeopleshistoryoftheunitedstates is a brief overview of what you should have learned in high school. #MythAmerica is what you should have learned your senior year. #OrdinaryMen is a cautionary example of what happens when citizens accept dogmatism & identity privilege over education & sympathy. 📚💙

#TheFloatingWorld by #AxieOh I happened to find serendipitously & It is a solid YA fantasy read! The setting is one we've all imagined before. However, the author's blending in of korean mythology and folklore into the worldbuilding & characters that brings the story new life in a satisfying way! 📚💙

#OverSeaUnderStone by #SusanCooper is a 1965 childrens mystery that would be categorized as middle grade today. The book has some charm within the children's sense of wonder but has dated stereotypical dialogue and structure.

⚠️Fair warning a hard left from a villian in black face towards the end 📚💙

#HowFascismWorks by #JasonStanley provides a critically succinct look into the disturbingly relevant patterns of how nationalism creates fascists. Such as Rewriting History, Mythical Past Propaganda, Anti-intellectualism, Attacking Institutions,
Enforcing social Hierarchy & Cult-like Absolutism. 📚💙

#I'mStartingtoWorryAboutThisBlackBoxofDoom by #JasonPargin is my 1st contemporary story in forever. This is a fascinating look into fictional characters with real modern ideologies. This book isn't a thriller because of the events but the perverse nature of online identity & social echo chambers. 📚💙

#ADropofCorruption by #RobertJacksonBennett is a great sequel! Ana & Din find themselves in another thought provoking & enthralling high stakes mystery! If you like detective mysteries with a fantasy twist this series is for you! The worldbuilding is marvelous and often surreal to dive into! 📚💙

I finished #ThePoppyWarTrilogy by #RFKuang and although I can understand some people's particular gripes. I have to say I appreciated the series! Incredible worldbuilding with an unapologetic depiction of it's own historical inspirations, western imperialism & what war does to it's survivors! 📚💙

#TheGodofTheWoods by #LizMoore is my first real foray into a thriller mystery set outside of horror & Fantasy & I'll admit it took some catching up on my part. But once caught up this book absolutely enraptured me in it's spiraling mystery that unraveled between the present (1975) & their past!
📚💙

#ThisIsHowYouLoseTheTimeWar by #AmalElMohtar & #MaxGladstone is an incredible example of creative use of epistolary storytelling! It was a blast to read through a time bending love story that carries the reader through a kaleidoscoping war between two all powerful factions with the same weakness 📚💙

Playing catch from a road trip! #TheTaintedCup by #RobertJacksonBennett is a novel fantastical take on a detective mystery! This is a great read! It follows very similarly to how I imagine a Sherlock Holmes book would. However it's a magical world setting and Watson's first day on the job. 📚💙
July 15, 2025 at 12:51 AM
Life gets too busy for social media but not for books! Finished #TheOutsiders by #SEHinton which is an entertaining teen drama from the 1960s that in many ways is very dated but gives compelling portrayals of how teens across demographic lines feel ostracization that leads themselves to cruelty. 📚💙

#TheStoneSky by #nkjemisin is a stellar end to the series!
This book is a cathartic, emotional & heartbreaking finale about how to find hope in a broken world. Concluding in the most well earned "I'll do whatever it takes to save the world" story I've read. This is my #1 series of modern fantasy! 📚💙
June 9, 2025 at 10:01 PM
#TheEmptyGrave by #JonathanStroud is a thrilling and satisfying ending to the #LockwoodandCo series! A climatic finale with harrowing close calls, tragedies, and character arcs that come full circle in the face of grave dangers.

I Will definitely be getting these books for my son to read! 📚💙

#TheCreepingShadow by #JonathanStroud finds Lockwood & Co are discovering mysteries of The Problem & encounter more cracks that put them under the thumb of the organizations that are meant to protect them and keep society safe. An ending revelation from the Skull as a cliffhanger is fantastic! 📚💙
