As parties stray from each other, it becomes less about politics and beliefs, and more about competition and an "us vs. them" view, which is hostile in society. I think journalism could shift to focus on values or policies and then talk about politicians that share them to change this. #UWJ201 #318

I think what separates a journalist from someone simply looking for information and reporting it is the intention. I think the goal of a journalist should be to promote knowledge and to inform the public, as opposed to gossip or polarization. #UWJ201 #318

I do think that the likability principle can be utilized in consumer behavior. It's interesting to think about because I also associate likability with trust and honesty, so maybe it's less manipulative and more about wanting to buy something that aligns with your ideas/likes. #UWJ201 #318

I think that media coverage has a strong effect on minimally informed citizens, especially individuals with strong beliefs that are seeking information that aligns with them. This strengthening of existing beliefs regardless of validity ultimately contributes to polarization. #UWJ201 #318

I think platforms and users should both bear equal responsibility. As people with followers that think we are trustworthy, we should be verifying that the content we share is true. That being said, there should be a limit to the amount of false information that can be spread online. #UWJ201 #318

I think that the spiral of silence contributes to polarization in politics. Loud voices will continue to be loud, and those strong viewpoints are likely to circulate more than anything else. #UWJ201 #318

Ultimately, I think finding meaning in life is what shapes memories, perspective and experiences. Meaning gives a person purpose and emotions. It's impossible to live a good life without meaning because a good life is one filled with emotion and growth. #UWJ201 #318

I think regarding the media, comparisons play a significant role in worsening a "good life". Media tends to highlight a specific standards regarding family, beauty etc. and these comparisons in the media can make a good life worse. #UWJ201 #318

I think covid became such a politicized issue, so news coverage became polarized as a result. Conservative news channels showed covid as less of a threat than more neutral or left leaning channels. I think less politicized issues would lead news channels to share the same information. #UWJ201 #318

I predict that as news coverage moves away from TV, it will become more prevalent in social media. News channels on TV go through verification and proofreading, while social media has no or very few limitations, making the credibility much lower, and misinformation much more frequent. #UWJ201 #318

I think that it's true that social media is effective and works rapidly. However, I think a government social media platform would create a blurred line between what is informative and what is meant to be entertaining due to the current nature of social media. #UWJ201 #318

I think that the effects of these techniques in advertisements is that it drives polarization by creating stereotypes and barriers between people of different race or economic situation. Failure to acknowledge these actions results in oppression of minority groups. #UWJ201 #318

Especially during the election, I think political parties framed their respective candidate positively, and the opposing one negatively. I believe that framing is a contributing factor to polarization, and can be hard to identify as long as all information being presented is true. #UWJ201 #318

I think to an extent, issues can be neutral, however the selection of what is included in the explanation is what connects to the framing, and elicits a specific response from the public. To conclude, I think that until information is manipulated beyond necessary facts, it's neutral. #UWJ201 #318

I think the charmin toilet paper add was the most influential. To summarize, the commercial gave viewers a countdown to go to the bathroom. I think the sense of humor and urgency it evoked was powerful, and caused the huge audience to be pulled in and take action! #UWJ201 #318

I think that popularity and publicity should be up to the public. I think that powerful companies can monopolize the media which could contribute to cycles of misinformation and even hate. I think content should flow more naturally. #UWJ201 #318

This question makes me think about how Meta recently ended fact-checking and censorship across several platforms. Although these platforms weren't bought, in response to your question, I predict that the nature of these apps will shift in the coming months in response. #UWJ201 #318
