Unconscionable: @nytimes.com reports 29+ people have been arrested in the fire zones. One man was dressed like a firefighter and had been burglarizing a home, the sheriff said.

Lowell Bergman and I interviewing President Jimmy Carter for the @frontlinepbs.bsky.social documentary "Black Money" in '09. He could not have been more gracious. Signing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act into law in '77 despite strong opposition from corporate America took real courage. #RIP

Expect persecution of journalists and leakers, with fewer confidential sources, far less information about government malfeasance and corruption, and extreme strain on already hurting news outlets. The point is to scare, punish and bankrupt journalists and whistleblowers. Democracy will suffer.
“In recent years, Trump has even made the idea of journalists getting raped in prison — and thus tortured into naming their confidential sources’ identities — into an audience-pleasing laugh line at some of his rallies.” www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

🎯 From Ted in the comments: Without real journalists who do the work the hosts rely on for video content (which they don't have to pay to use) they have no content...They need "the liberal media" as a source of content to do battle with.

This Esquire story by former reporter Patrick Fealey just wrecked me...The writing is exquisite, the sense of place so visceral but too the loneliness and humiliation of folks just trying to survive amidst inequity. Can't unsee it. Donated. www.esquire.com/news-politic...
