This is deep! I’m going to have to go away and think about this.

This is a fascinating article. I’m just wondering, in Wolfram physics energy and momentum are associated with flux of causal edges through a hypersurface in his causal graph. In assembly space what cool things would be associated with flux of causal edges through a chosen hypersurface?

I think life must look mechanical to Laplace’s demon. If you know everything about how a system works there is no ghost. The ghost is not knowing.

But if you know everything about a system you are necessarily outside of the system; his demon can’t operate using our laws of physics.

A video of me throwing a ball and smashing a window. Or a wall covered with still frames of that video. The abstract causal relationships between throw-ball-smash exist in both. But the video flows and the wall of stills does not.

Wolfram has a video on time. He says time is a set of causal connections. For someone outside of the universe there could be an infinity of time between what we think of as one moment and the next. In the end there is only a collection of abstract relationships.

loss of economic sovereignty for Indian farmers.

Western multinationals benefit not local workers.

biodiversity in freefall: boom is unsustainable.

Insect populations in freefall. book about it called the insect crisis: the fall of the tiny kingdoms that run the world.

How obviously wrong? How different from saying a human wakes up and is sentient?

I remember Wolfram saying his ruliad is in a sense everything but it tells you nothing. In order for it to tell you something is has to be sliced up by a bounded observer.

I like the idea that everything and nothing are somehow close, but ‘something’ is observer dependent

unitary evolution is reversible.

there remain conceptual problems with entropy and arrow of time.

Also unitary evolution without the born rule gives us dead and alive cats. these two problems mean unitary evolution on its own might not be the whole story.

Same place his arrow of time problem comes in?
