Me trying to work out how to make mastodon work while @catsofyore.bsky.social was gone. So glad they are back! This is from my mother's postcard collection and is the least questionable/most fluffy of the set.
Lightly colourised black and white photographic postcard of a cat sitting upright. Probably early 20th century. The cat is sat on a brown embroidered table covering, with a darker grey background, painted with a few green leaves. The cat is pale grey with long tousled hair. It's quite stout, with the slight air of being a professional boxer. Within a big shaggy chest mane, which is in crisp focus, a gold bell hangs. The thing is, what is really going on, is that this is one of those postcards where they cut two round holes roughly where the cat's eyes are and glued two bright green plastic eyes in, from behind. It's the pre-cursor of googly eyes. Nothing like the cat's actual eye shape at all, and makes the cat look basically terrified or demented, yet in a kitsch way. The nose is coloured slightly pink. The number 832/1 appears in the bottom RH corner.

This is the very first cornichon I ever bought/ate. I slice it and, first slice, this happens:
A crossways slice of a cornichon, a small gherkin. It's a close up. The background is blue at the top half; white at the bottom. It's the top of my fridge. The slice of cornichon is a rounded triangle; a bit pear-shaped. It is moss green around its edge, paling to a ghostly chlorine white green at the centre. This whitey ghostly green bears unnerving resemblence to a human face. The face is wearing a headscarf and a face covering from the nose down, as if a photo of an old lady wearing a hijab, or an old desert wanderer, his shemagh wrapped against the sandy wind. Before I took the close up, I thought it was Karl Marx with a big white beard. Whoever it is, this apparition stares directly out at you, from within the shining surface of the sliced cornichon, it's shadowy eyes holding your gaze.
