One of about 50 starlings feeding in the grass beside Riverside Drive in Dundee this afternoon. The others had just flown into the trees above. I've not seen many starlings over the summer so it was nice to see so many close-up again. 📸🎞️🪶 #birds #ukwildlife
A close-up image of a speckled black, white and brown bird with a sharp pointed beak looking intently at the camera while standing in a low-cut grassy lawn. Their eyes are jet black with lots of black "eye shadow". Their top of their head is chestnut brown while their cheeks, chin and nape appear white with black speckles. Their breast is black with white spots that get larger and more heart-shaped lower down their body. Their back is black with mostly brown speckles; their wings are black with brown edges around the feathers.

A white-throated dipper in a "tree". They climbed about a metre up a large branch/shrub in the middle of the burn. Dippers, at least here, usually stay low and within the river banks although once I saw a pair fly past me through willow trees to cut-a-corner. 📸🎞️🪶 #birds #ukwildlife
A white-throated dipper bird perched on a branch seen in profile facing right with out-of-focus green and brown leaves in the background. They have a chestnut brown head with brown eye and small black pupil. Their chin and breast are bright white with a chestnut brown waistcoat below. Their back is slightly mottled dark brown with dark brown wings.

A buzzard giving me side-eye while being chased by one of about ten magpies after having been vocally mobbed by five oystercatchers. 📸🎞️🪶 #birds #ukwildlife
A wide shot of a buzzard at the left of frame and a magpie with wings spread wide at right of frame. The buzzard is brown with a hooked beak with brown and white wings. The magpie has a black head and tail with white body; the inner part of their wings is black with fanned out white flight feathers.

A hawthorn shield-bug on leaves of a tree felled by Storm Amy. 📸🎞️ #insects #ukwildlife
A close-up image of a green and brown insect in the shape of a large shield resting on the underside of a leaf with bright yellow and red stems and buds above it. The shield has an almost heraldic diagonal per-saltire quartering. The top of the shield has shoulder-pad/horn-like extensions.

Buff-tailed bumblebee butt. Feeding on ivy flowers with large pollen sacs on their legs. Another one nearby was covered in pollen but no visible sacs. 📸🎞️ #bees #insects #ukwildlife

Some photos from my husband's Saturday walk in the Dighty Burn wooded river valley near our home in eastern Dundee, Scotland 📷📸🎞️🪶
One of the arches of an old railway viaduct peeking out in the middle surrounded by green trees to the left, right and in front. A dipper bird perched on a branch about a metre above a river. Behind it are loads of green leaves. It’s unusual to see a dipper so high. A very fluffy black, orange and white bumblebee perched on spiky green spherical ivy flowers, wings spread wide. A dipper flying from right to left above a frothy white flecked river. It has been photographed mid flight, its wings below.

A close-up image of the underside of a bright white tri-lobed leaf. There are faint orange rust spots scattered across the slightly furry underside. The leaves are actually five-lobed but the bottom two are curled out of sight.

A highlight was a buzzard being chased over the burn in the woods by at least five vocal oystercatchers (followed by at least ten magpies). Mobbed by crows, jays, magpies or gulls sure, but oystercatchers far from their nests? #ukwildlife

22 species of bird seen and 6 more heard on a 5 hour/7.5km walk (3.5 hours still) around north Monifieth and the Seven Arches (Balmossie) Viaduct area of the Dighty Burn in Monifieth/Broughty Ferry on a very windy, cloudy Saturday afternoon (tail of storm Amy). #ukwildlife

A grey heron perched on the top of the Tay Rail Bridge in Dundee after low tide. I was expecting them to fly underneath the bridge but they soared up and landed on the edge, fluffed their wings then settled into a waiting pose. 📸🎞️🪶 #birds #ukwildlife

A grey heron telling a crow to be somewhere else, or else. A few seconds later as the heron started to put their other leg down, the crow flew off in the opposite direction. Shot into the sun. River Tay, Dundee a bit after low tide. 📸🎞️🪶 #birds #ukwildlife
A close-up image of a large grey bird with large pointed orange beak and spiky crest perched on one leg on a seaweed-covered pipe in over-exposed silver white water. Their beak is slightly open giving them the appearance of saying something to a crow seen approaching from the right.

Some photos from my husband's Friday walk to the Dighty Burn wooded river valley near our home in eastern Dundee, Scotland 📷📸🎞️🪶
A small wren seen in the middle of the picture perched on a thin branch, leaning towards us, tail pointing upwards behind. The bird has a soft light brown body and a stripey dark brown and orange tail behind. A rook strutting left to right across green grass, its head turned towards us, sharp pointed beak facing us, and head tilted slightly, a quizzical expression on its face. A dipper bird in the middle of the picture, perched on a rock in the river to the right, its body facing to the left, neck stretched and head turned towards us as it preens. A wood pigeon strutting away along a grey tarmac road. It has fluffy grey pantaloons above pink feet and below its grey tail feathers, grey wings and grey body. There is a white ring around its neck, then above that a greenish/blue fluffy area, with darker grey above on the rest of the neck.
