🚨Big news🚨

A Pocket Guide to Scientific Writing and Publishing is out🎉

This is the book I wish I’d had 20 years ago — short, practical, and designed to help researchers write & get their papers published

I hope it helps many
Please share with anyone who might benefit!

When are you more creative?

I'm waking up very early and I am working surprisingly well in this semi-awake mode

There is evidence of artist being more creative using alcohol/drugs (don't do this!)

There is something about creativity & having your brain working at a fraction of its potential...

"Writing isn’t a gift—it’s a skill.” In my book, ecologist Mariano A. Rodriguez-Cabal (EIC @biolinvasions.bsky.social ) shows why writing early/often sharpens your thinking and your science. Great text! mybook.to/ScienceGuide #SciWriting #ECR

@martin-nunez.bsky.social - so sorry, I just realized I tagged the wrong Martin Nuñez! Better late than never and I can also now relay an update. I enjoyed your book, have used the chapter on AI in a lab meeting, lent out my copy to a student, and bought a copy for another student.

Unexpected perk of writing a book: meeting readers to help them go from idea+data to publication

If you bought the book/borrowed from your advisor, friend, library, etc please DM/email me to meet and get those ideas into papers!
(may be obvious but: This is 100% free!)

How did North American and European fungi end up in Argentine forests?

New research in @newphyt.bsky.social from UE @nahpo.bsky.social and @martin-nunez.bsky.social looks underground at how non-native tree species and their fungal partners have spread.

Wow. 70 books on their way to an early-career researchers (ECR) workshop in Spain ✈️📚

Honored that so many see it as the “perfect gift” young researchers

Thank you all🙏
Order of 70 books to Spain.

Really wonderful text Matthias!

And you send to me the full text only a few hours after I asked you for it.

Wow.

You are a real and wonderful example of how to get things done.

Writing and publishing shouldn’t be the hardest part of science

Goal #1 of A Pocket Guide to Scientific Writing and Publishing: make the path from idea → manuscript → acceptance simpler
