Nonsensical but not remotely shocking. A quick calculation confirms that the good doctor would have needed a salary of almost £82k when payments commenced just to cover the accruing interest (almost £102k now). His nominal debt is likely meaningless, with the balance written off after 30 years.

In their ‘Operation Restoring Justice’ document (Aug 2025) they were claiming 1m+ to be removed at the rate of up to 24,000 a month, and establishing secure camps in unspecified ‘remote parts of the country’ to hold these rolling 24,000.

Although I’d not seen an A13 in Malta scheme before, their presence from early 1942 is well documented. IWM even have a photograph of the hold of one of the ships unloading in Grand Harbour that also includes an A9.

Very often the business would be conducted by a wholly US owned but EU incorporated subsidiary, which would be covered I believe.

Challenging for US businesses operating within the EU which might find themselves prosecuted by OFAC if they fail to apply the sanctions and prosecuted by the EU if they do.

I’ve seen little discussion of the many non-farmers who, at a stroke of the Chancellor’s pen, now potentially find their pensions being brought into their estates. Presumably this is still going ahead.

I was looking at the remand figures earlier – some of the 17,701 recorded will doubtless be found to be innocent, and I remember a Fair Trials finding of a few years ago of approaching 2,000 having then been held for more than a year.

While I would dispute that you can obtain ‘a fair, democratic expression’ by misrepresentation, Starmer’s speech last night seems to reflect a significant shift and warrants being the political lead today in my view.

Although I expect that the current circumstances can be readily distinguished from this authority, the Hospital Ship Dover Castle judgment, where the U-boat’s commander successfully ran the ‘obeying orders’ defence is interesting.

Worth remembering that the French carried out the first raids on Berlin in June 1940 using a Farman NC 223.4 that, improbably, still used pusher props.

Defaming a lawyer is a bold move - I think Starmer should just sue Tice and Sky seeking damages and a public retraction.

Of course Connolly’s is not an isolated case, so their near silence regarding the many others sentenced for similar offences is curious.
