The timidity of Europe compounds the inaction of the US, where a doddering, mango-hued president defers to the Kremlin. The blend of inertia, ineptitude and indifference has created a world in which Russia bombing Ukrainian civilians night after night passes as normal, as inevitable, as unalterable.

A gunman disguised as a delivery courier had murdered Parubiy, 54, on a sidewalk in Lviv that morning. Authorities detained a suspect within 48 hours, and details soon surfaced linking him to Russian intelligence agencies.

On this Giving Tuesday, I’m recommending five charities that represent a fraction of those that I’ve witnessed doing good deeds — heroic deeds — in cities and settlements throughout Ukraine. Also, for the next week, you can save 20 percent on a 12-month paid subscription to Reporting on Ukraine.
Need without end
On Giving Tuesday, here are five aid groups in Ukraine deserving of your support (and one newsletter humbly requesting it)
