Even in this cold 🏔️⛰️🏔️ region, rising temperatures cause more harm to vegetation by increasing drought. Water supplied from melting snow ❄️💦 in the springtime is vital for 🌱plant growth. So far, plants balanced increasing drought by enhanced water-use efficiency thanks to higher CO2 concentration.

Greening in the arid Western #Himalaya isn't just about warming 🌡️. Using two decades of 🛰️ #Landsat NDVI data, we found precipitation 🌧️🌨️ and CO2 fertilization, not temperature, drives spectral greening across elevations in #Ladakh.

Not a single frost-free day all year round? The Himalayan cushion plant Ladakiella klimesii thriving up to 6150 m can handle it. But this cold desert specialist isn't built for deep, late melting snow. Warming 🌡️ boosts its growth at upper elevation limit— extreme snowpack ❄️ threatens its survival.
